Description: The sacred scriptures of the old and new testaments, Second Edition. One volume in three sections, Basel: Thomas Guarin, 1578. Part I (612 pages), Part II (251 pages), and Part III (224 pages). Including two folding maps showing the Route of the Garden of Eden and one page-long map showing the eastern Mediterranean, Exodus, and neighboring nations, woodcut title, and several woodcut drawings by Tobias Stimmer, encompassing over 20 several woodcut initials, some of which are hand-colored, some of which are partially colored, and woodcut vignettes. Pigskin with original blind stamping. Interior binding is well-worn. One page had a corner missing. Notes from an antique manuscript. title page with the bottom margin fixed. Dimensions 6 by 9" (H. 22,5, B. 14,5 cm) Following the release of the first large-format Bible edition (Neue Künstliche Figuren, Basel, Guarin, 1576), Tobias, an artist from Schaffhausen Stimmer (1539–1584) created a little picture Bible. published 1578, along with the publisher Thomas Guarin. This Vulgate is defined by the late artist's creative insight. Renaissance and demonstrates the Upper Rhine artist's entire range of skill.
