This significant work of Roman literature describes the harsh realities of daily existence in Rome during the Roman Empire. Martial talks about the harsh treatment of slaves, dishonest senators and doctors, emperors' secrets, and the living circumstances in Rome. Martial is frequently referred to be the first insult comedian due to the manner in which he wrote, disguising his contempt for the life he was so familiar with through humor.
