Description: Ancient Greek inscriptions, in Latin translated by Marquardo Gudio, collected by Joanne Koolio and digested by her as a shorthand for Joannis Georgii Graevii. Published by Francisco Hesselio as an annotation to the text in Leeuwarden, heirs of François Halmae (printed by Tobias van Dessel, colophon); 1731 by Marquard Gude Large folio with original cardboard binding and leather spine. Dimensions: 10 3/4 by 14 1/4 "; slight wear on the binding, some repairs; contents clean. Latin text. Marquard Gude (1635-1689) traveled much, spent a great deal of money, and showed great energy in his relatively short life to amass an enormous collection of Latin and Greek medieval and Renaissance codices. All together, they constitute what is perhaps the most significant private collection of manuscripts from the 17th century located north of the Alps.
