The extinct Turkic literary language known as Chagatai[a], commonly referred to as Turki, Eastern Turkic, or Chagatai Turkic, was formerly extensively spoken throughout Central Asia and up until the early 20th century, it was the common literary language there. It was utilized in many different regions, including sections of what is now Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Xinjiang. The current Karluk branch of Turkic languages, which includes Uzbek and Uyghur, has its roots in Literary Chagatai. Despite belonging to the Oghuz branch of Turkic languages rather than the Karluk branch, Turkmen was greatly impacted by Chagatai for many years.
