Benedict Aretius's commentary on the Gospels, published posthumously. Latin text in excellent shape with toning. Benedictus Aretius, a Swiss Protestant theologian, reformer, and natural philosopher, was born in 1505 and took his surname from the Greek word Marti. "as one of the first Reformed, he promoted the establishment of church peace with the Lutherans on the basis of agreement on the things necessary for salvation Articles of Faith while maintaining diversity of rites" in his principal encyclopaedic book (Theologiae problemata, Geneva 1573) In addition, Aretius wrote astrological commentary, which was his second area of expertise after Bern, as well as commentary on the Old and New Testaments and Pindar. Le Preux was burned at the stake, whipped, and exiled as a result of the diatribes against the Catholic Church being traded at the Zurzach fair.
