Description: Portrait of the celebrated Huntsman, Dick Knight of the Pytchley Hounds on 'Contract' Fantastic English late 18th century Fox hunting landscape, with huntsman jumping over a fence. There existed a great rivalry between the Quornites and the Pytchley Hunt followers, which is wittily referred to in this painting and a series of prints that were published after the paintings. The series of prints follow the various mishaps and eventual triumph of Dick Knight, and make a point to relate that Knight used three horses during the course of the run in order to achieve his victory. This painting is framed in its original hand-carved English 18th century frame and the piece has the provenance of coming through the most important sporting art dealers ever, Arthur Ackerman and Sons of London.
