Written in Latin Eusebius of Caesarea, also called Eusebius Pamphili, was a Greek Christian historian, exegete, and polemicist who lived from approximately 260/265 until 339. He was appointed bishop of Caesarea Maritima in the Roman province of Syria Palaestina in AD 314. In addition to Pamphilus, he was a biblical canon scholar and considered one of the most erudite Christians of late antiquity. He published examinations of the biblical text titled Demonstrations of the Gospel, Preparations for the Gospel, and On Discrepancies between the Gospels. He wrote the Ecclesiastical History, On the Life of Pamphilus, the Chronicle, and On the Martyrs, earning him the title "Father of Church History." In addition, he wrote a biography of the first Christian Roman emperor, Constantine the Great, who ruled as Augustus from AD 306 to AD 337.
