Description: The New Testament text of Jesus Christ in the English Bible translated by the Papists of the Traiterous Seminarie at Rhemes from the Vulgar Latin. London: Printed by Augustine Mathewes, 1633 Folio; William Fulke (1538-1589) provided comments. Fulke's title and etched portrait by William Marshall, who lived from 1617 to 1650. Fulke's A Defense of the Sincere and True Translation of the Holy Scriptures into the English Tongue, London: by Aug., follows the text. One of Hester Ogden's assigns, Mathewes, 1633 The Rheims translation of the New Testament is laid out in parallel columns with the Bishops' Bible, with Fulke's commentary at the conclusion of each chapter. Gregory Martin was mostly responsible for the Rheims translation; Matthew Parker oversaw the translation of the Bible for the Bishops. Page. Dimensions: 8.5 by 13.5"; original leather; covers missing (but still there); spine shipped at the ends; title page missing; otherwise, excellent interior condition
