Description: Fine 16th 17th century English School portrait of the Saxon King, Alfred The Great, oil on panel. An early and important portrait of the Saxon King wearing his crown and a red and ermine trimmed cloak. Celebrated early King who successfully fought the Viking invasions most notably at the Battle of Edington. Alfred the Great also reformed education from Latin to Old English and introduced a structured military and legal system.
