Description: George Cole painted a beautiful, expansive English countryside with sleeping sheep near Guildford in Surrey in the nineteenth century. A sheep rests beside a trail in the Surrey Hills in this excellent quality and condition scene as figures approach in the distance. Outstanding example of Cole's work in its pristine condition, known for his rural views of Surrey and West Sussex. Inscribed on the original antique Victorian gilded frame that was manufactured especially for the picture and may have served as an entry for an exhibition given its size. back of an old label.
