Description: One exceptional 19th-century artwork, "The Wounded Greek," attributed to Abraham Cooper RA. Subject: Portrait of a fallen Greek soldier following a fierce battle; two women are tending to him and watching over him; one is kneeling to the right, supporting his head, and the other is standing to the left, holding the horse's reins behind him. The soldier is lying on the ground, clutching his curved sword in his right hand, and his hat is resting on the ground next to him. His horse, further back, is standing straight in side profile, facing left and appearing worried. The saddle is exquisitely ornate. You may see a portion of an old marble temple structure to the right. With a gray sky above, you can make out clouds of dust from galloping horses and more warrior figures in the far background to the left. Canvas coated in oil. "The Wounded Greek" is the title. Not signed.
