Description: Mantuanus Baptista. Opera [with contributions by Jodocus Badius Ascensius, Hermannus Buschius, Franciscus Ceretus, Theodoricus Ulsenius, and Petrus Bonomus]. One volume, five segments. With two woodcut vignettes (repeated).Köln, following Praedicatores [i.e. Zierickzee's Cornelius, around 15005.5 x 8.5" (21.7 × 15 cm), wood cover, half with blind stamped pigskin, brass clasp; [66], [40], [20], [54], [44] ll. 27–29 lines A rare five-part Cologne work edition with signs of worming in the wood; the current copy's fifth and final component is bound after the second. Joining the Carmelite order, the poet and humanist Battista Mantovano (Giovanni Battista Spagnoli, 1447–1516) composed devotional poetry in Virgil's style. He was promoted to prior general of his order in 1513. Only on the first approximate, there is a narrow brown stain in the upper edge. 15 leaves, the first two of which have a few missing letters. A little browned and finger-stained, with some marginalia and period underlining; four leaves have little tears in the corners without any text loss. Old hand foliation that has faded in the upper margin. The fourth part's final leaf, which is bound in at the end, is old and moist.
